What is the poppy flower known for?
In certain countries across the world, such as the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada, the poppy is a way of respecting the fallen servicemen and women who lost their lives fighting for their country.
The poppy was chosen as the flower of remembrance as it was such a common sight on the battlefields in World War One.
As soldiers fought and churned the mud, poppies grew and flourished amongst the fighting and death.
Canadian Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae wrote about this in his famous poem ‘In Flanders Fields’ and soon enough, the red poppy became the symbol of remembrance.
