Here are some substitutes for cornstarch in recipes:
- Arrowroot powder: Arrowroot powder is a flavorless thickening agent that can replace cornstarch in recipes. Use it in the same quantity as cornstarch.
- Potato starch: Potato starch is a gluten-free substitute for cornstarch with a similar texture and thickening power. Use the same amount as cornstarch in the recipe.
- Tapioca flour: Tapioca flour is a gluten-free thickener with a sweet taste that can add shine to sauces and desserts. Use the same amount as cornstarch in your recipe.
- All-purpose flour: All-purpose flour can replace cornstarch, but it is less effective in thickening sauces and gravies. You’ll need to use twice the amount of all-purpose flour as cornstarch in the recipe.
- Rice flour: Rice flour works as a thickening agent, but has a gritty texture. Use the same amount of rice flour as cornstarch in the recipe.
